Need a “Tote”? Check out this new App for on demand delivery service.

Last year I met with a small of group of start up companies that were developing Apps at the Atlanta Tech Village to see if they were interested in presenting their App at the next AGC Georgia Construction Technology Forum. One of the stand out apps to me was a unique new idea for a truck for hire called Tote. What an ingenious idea for a company! Think about how many people in a major metro area may drive a small efficiency vehicle, or a motorcycle or may not even own a vehicle period.

I thought about how a on demand delivery service may be useful in the construction world. How many companies have a dedicated delivery driver? In my case our company does have one, however he is trying to support 15 superintendents every day! He simply cannot be everywhere at once, there is always there or four Superintendents waiting on a delivery.

This past week I had a chance to try out the Tote App for a personal errand at my home, i.e. Removal of the Christmas Tree. I used the IOS App on my iPhone 6 to request a driver to “Tote” my Christmas Tree from my house to the closest Home Depot for recycling.

It was a simple 5 step process…

1. Open the app
2. Tap “Request a Tote”
3. Put in my info
4. Add a picture of the item
5. Add a final location

Within the hour I was contacted by the company to verify my information and confirm the pick up window. The next step was a call from the driver confirming my address and his arrival time. By the end of the afternoon my Christmas Tree has been removed and was on the way to be recycled!

To learn more about the Tote App and other ATV Apps join me on January 29, 2015 for the next AGC Georgia COnstruction Tech Forum.

I have a “Tote” planned for this week from a Construction Project. Stay tuned for details…

Want to learn about cutting edge Atlanta Based Apps?

Over the past year I have worked closely with the AGC Georgia chapter to build a strong Technology Committee that plans and presents quarterly Construction Technology Forum (Tech Forum) events for members. The current Tech Forum format started out as a lunch and learn format where myself and a few other members talked about the apps that we were using on our projects. This Tech Forum has grown into an interactive event where multiple apps and ideas are presented by several people. However, things are about to get shaken up a bit. The AGC Georgia is taking the Tech Forum show on the road!

The next Tech Forum will be hosted at one of Atlanta’s most unique technological wonders, the recently completed Atlanta Tech Village (ATV) in the Buckhead area. The vision that I have for this event is to showcase a few local start up apps to AGC GA members and those viewing online. Yes indeed online! This event will be broadcast through a Go To Meeting connection for members that are out of town or even out of state!

The following ATV Apps will be presented:

  • Novarata – app development for Android devices
  • Thing Tech – GPS and real-time telematics help you remotely supervise a site
  • Tote – app based courier service specializing in larger deliveries to job sites, etc.
  • We Get Around – 360 degree virtual walk around tours for projects hosted online.

The following Concepts will be presented:

  • App Alchemy – Punch list and BIM model integration
  • Big Data (Big Brother!) – Tracking societal patterns to guide development
  • LandAir Survey – 3D laser scanning services
  • Oculus Rift – Virtual reality for architectural visualization, safety training, and plan verification
  • Plus – lessons learned from the build-out of the ATV

Great Apps from Atlanta Tech Village

Last week I met with several start up companies at the Atlanta Tech Village for an upcoming AGC Georgia Tech Forum on January 29, 2015. The purpose of the meeting was to hear the “pitch” from each company. These companies have been asked to now present to the AGC Georgia members next January.

1. ThingTech: Our solutions leverage cloud computing platforms, M2M networking, and our deep expertise in transportation, asset management & mobile workforce management to reduce operating costs for fleets, capital assets, & logistics.

2. Tote: A free app that gets your stuff delivered with the help of people and their trucks. This local app has 4 trucks delivering to areas from Downtown to Chamblee areas on Atlanta.

3. Novarata: We use Android everyday, believe in its potential as a platform, and want to help our customers get the most out of their investment in Android applications for their businesses.

4. We Get Around: a web based platform that creates three-dimensional viewing experiences of residential and commercial real estate. These immersive 3D Showcase walk-arounds help your clients make confident decisions about renting, leasing, buying, building and renovating.

I will post a link to the AGC Georgia Tech Forum that will be hosted at the ATV when details become available.
